From MSN Live Messenger to Facebook, so, what's next?

It was the year 2006, no one could imagine a world without MSN Live Messenger, and Skype was barely started to get recognition by that time, some people thought chatting using Live Messenger would be something permanent, something that had come to stay for decades, all my friends had a Messenger account, if someone did not use it then he was a weirdo, and getting the e-mail of the girl you liked so that you could add her represented an amazing challenge, on one occasion I looked for the name of a girl in one of those emails with hundreds of recipients (and I found it).


Opening a conversation at that time was not like today on Facebook, now it is easier, others can see your photos and Facebook shows them if you have “friends in common”, but back then people could only see our “nickname” and a small profile picture.

If the picture was attractive that was enough for many to start a conversation with someone unknown, and thus began "friendships" that lasted months and months, talking every day.


When Facebook appeared I refused to open my account for a long time, I wanted to continue using Messenger, the problem was that many of my friends were now using Facebook and had forgotten their Messenger accounts which forced me open my own account at "The Social Network", and it was a good change since it implemented lots of photos, posting thoughts, activities, locations and more things instead of a simple nickname that lasted weeks to be changed, also the possibility of adding new people without having to investigate their e-mails.

When I least expected it; I had stopped using Messenger.

Other people consider that Twitter takes the trophy, not for me, especially this 2019 I've seen it going down, haven't you? I also use Twitter but my most rewarding experience has been with Facebook, thanks to it I found friends from my Elementary School, friends that had moved out of town, and the best! Facebook came with his own Messenger!

After a while I heard that MSN Messenger ceased to exist, that happened in 2013


My question now is, will the same thing happen to Facebook? Will there ever come a new tool that makes us all forget about Facebook?

That crazy obsession with "Likes".

Social networks are an issue widely discussed today, like, widely. To explain them is as complicated as unnecessary, we all have made use of at least two social networks in our life.

Focusing entirely on Facebook, everything is reduced to a Like, but, what does a like represent? Are thousands of likes synonymous of popularity? You bet! At least for me, the images published by the several existing pages with a lot of likes are simply the result of how to shape the minds of their visitors. Here are some examples as common as ridiculous


"Like if you love God"... I would like to know: What the hell does God have to do with a "like"?


Other posts condition certain behaviors and even give you options such as:



"Like if you love your mom. Ignore if you don't" So it turns out that to show the world that we love our mothers, all we have to do is give a like, just like that!

But well, there are a lot of examples like these and the list grows every day, the administrators of Facebook pages obsessed with generating traffic on their sites even dare to promise that "soon you will receive a miracle" just by hitting the like button:


Other administrators are not satisfied with just your like, they want you to comment and share their ridiculous publication:

"Like if you like Coca Cola, share if you like Pepsi and comment if you like Shasta"

The result: a lot of traffic for their pages. But, what is the objective of this? Are they earning something with that huge traffic? As far as I know Facebook does not pay to pages administrators just because that have lots of likes and shares.

I would ask for a like but this blog doesn't have a Facebook account so... I guess I won't ever understand the reason for this obsession with likes. So here's a selection of incoherent images that you might have already seen on Facebook and who knows ... Maybe you've even liked them.

You might like:

"I do this, therefore, everyone should do the same." A stupid way of thinking.

The one who dedicates hours to the gym thinks that we should all do the same, the one belonging to the youth team of a political party wonders why others do not do the same as he, the girl whose life is dancing and dancing despises those who won't ever dance not even by mistake.

So, what's your point? (You might think). Don't worry; I'll get there.

Having a passion is excellent, it is paramount and healthy, what affects a bit the healthy coexistence is to attack all those who do not think the same as we do, a common example that we can find on Facebook and Twitter are posts like:

"Person A: That people who stay home studying makes wanna puke, see you at the club fun people."

"Person B: While everyone hits the club, I DO want to be someone in life, I have a lot to study."

So what if one wants to study and the other goes out to have fun? What if someone prefers horses and someone else prefers motorcycles? And what if someone does not want to be religious? We should be able to do and think whatever the hell we want without being attacked, not long ago I saw a post from a gym addict acquaintance who said:

"Differences between your boyfriend and me: He does not train; I do."

If I could have been an intermediary in the situation I would have said "Okay, the boyfriend of the girl you like does not train, and he doesn't have to if he doesn't want, if you love so much the gym then good for you, just remember that no one's inferior or superior to you, in fact, that guy who does not train is now with the girl you like."

Then we see internet articles with names like "5 movies you have to see", "10 things you have to do before you die", "Places you have to visit", "Books you have to read"... The answer is a resounding NO, nobody has to do anything that another considers essential for life.

Recommendations are valid, the approach is very different if it is like: "10 Good destinations in the U.S." or "My recommendations of short novels", but today we come across endless orders on the Internet, they all want us to do what they consider that's dope!
