Eau De Toilette. What is that? Differences between the different types of perfumes.

For those of you who have wondered what does Eau De Toilette means? Why not just say "perfume" or "lotion"? We have here a basic guide to recognize and choose the best option or simply know the reasons that make the difference between one and the other options on the market.

So, what's the big deal?

There are generally 5 presentations among the brands dedicated to making you smell good, they are: Cologne, Eau De Toilette, Eau De Parfum, Parfum and Elixir, you probably only know one or two of the options mentioned, the truth is that the most extravagant options (like the elixir) are more common among the high-perfumery-loving breeds (such as Paris, Geneva, etc.) although in the West they can also be found, only by struggling a little more.

The thing is simpler than it seems, in reality, the differentiation is marked by the degrees of essence they contain, the duration of the fragrance, the levels of concentration and well: the quality. From lowest to highest; perfumes are distributed as follows:

Eau De Cologne

(Cologne) The lightest of all, especially for people who get dizzy with strong smells, it contains between 6% and 8% of essence, does not last long and is cheaper than Eau De Toilette, there are some very practical colonies that come in Cuban Cigar typed presentations to be applied several times a day.

Eau De Toilette

It ranges from 8% to 15% essence, the most famous and usual presentation, it has more fixation than the cologne and therefore longer duration, it is difficult for an Eau De Toilette to last more than 4 hours.

Eau De Parfum

(Perfume water) Between 16% and 18% of essence which achieves up to 6 hours of duration on your skin, it has less volatile solvent than Eau De Toilette which is what makes you leave a trail of fragrance when you pass through a place Therefore, an Eau De Parfum smells longer but is only perceived by people who come near you.

Parfum

We remove the "Eau", this is no longer water, it is perfume as it is, it goes from 20% to 30% in essence, it can last up to 8 or 9 hours on your skin, generally the parfums have a smaller spray dispenser or goes without of it to be applied directly and in small quantities in strategic places such as the neck, wrists or chest. To achieve a similar effect in intensity (not in duration) you would have to bathe in Eau De Toilette and you surely know someone who does it, exceeding in the use of parfum will surely cause headaches in people who approach you.

Elixir

The boss of bosses, rare like no other, expensive and difficult to obtain, the elixir remains smelling on your skin even after the shower, according to the myth (because I have not verified it) a single drop of elixir will make " you smell delicious ”for 9 hours or more, they generally come in very small jars. In short, the elixir is a weapon ready to penetrate even noses congested by fever.

And well, knowing the differences, we hope that your next purchase is an Eau De Toilette or at most an Eau De Parfum, it is horrible to be in line at the bank next to someone who bathed himself with “elixir”.

Or even worse; set out on a bus trip nest to a lady who literally took a dip in her Chanel No. 5
